My name is Vidushpat Singhania, and throughout my professional career I have focused on the intersection of law, sports governance, and the rapidly evolving gaming and gambling industry. I am currently the Managing Partner of Krida Legal, a boutique law firm that specializes in sports, gaming, entertainment, and commercial law.
Over the years I have been recognized as one of the leading sports and gaming lawyers in India, advising companies, regulators, and international organizations on complex issues related to betting regulation, online gaming policy, league formation, and digital entertainment law.
My work has been driven by a strong interest in how technology, sports, and online gaming ecosystems intersect with legal frameworks, particularly in emerging markets such as India.
Early Legal Career and Professional Development
I began my legal career after registering as an advocate with the Delhi Bar Council, which allowed me to practice in Indian courts and work on a wide range of regulatory and commercial legal matters.
During the early years of my career I developed a particular interest in sports governance and gaming law, two areas that were still developing in India at the time. As online gaming platforms and digital entertainment companies began to expand globally, it became increasingly clear that new legal frameworks were required to regulate these industries effectively.
Over time, my legal practice expanded to include advisory work on:
- online gaming regulation
- betting and gambling laws
- fantasy sports and skill gaming platforms
- sports league governance and commercial rights
- foreign direct investment (FDI) in gaming companies
- payment systems and compliance for digital platforms
These areas would later become central to my work advising both government bodies and private gaming operators.

Founding Krida Legal and Expanding Gaming Law Practice
Eventually I founded Krida Legal, a law firm focused on sports, gaming, and entertainment law. Through this platform I was able to work with organizations across the sports and gaming ecosystem — including leagues, regulatory authorities, athletes, and gaming companies.
My legal advisory work often involves helping gaming and betting companies navigate complex regulatory environments. This includes issues such as:
- legality of online betting platforms
- regulatory compliance for real-money gaming operators
- licensing and jurisdictional frameworks
- intellectual property rights in gaming technology
- dispute resolution in gaming and sports industries
In addition to advising private companies, I have also contributed to public policy discussions and legal reforms related to gaming and sports governance.
Policy Development and Legislative Work
One of the most important aspects of my work has been involvement in the drafting and development of sports and gaming policy in India.
I have contributed to drafting several major policy frameworks, including:
- National Sports Development Bill
- Prevention of Sporting Fraud Bill
- National Anti-Doping Act 2022
These initiatives were designed to strengthen governance structures and ensure transparency in sports and gaming environments.
Beyond legislative work, I have collaborated with numerous organizations and committees, including:
- FICCI National Sports Committee
- International Association of Gaming Advisors
- British Association of Sport and Law
- Sports Authority of India
Participation in these bodies has allowed me to contribute to the development of international standards for sports integrity and gaming regulation.
As the global iGaming industry expanded during the 2010s, my research and advisory work increasingly focused on the legal challenges associated with online gaming platforms, betting services, and digital casino environments.
The rapid growth of the online gaming market created new legal questions, particularly in areas such as:
- cross-border online gambling operations
- payment processing for betting platforms
- player protection and responsible gaming policies
- taxation and compliance for online gaming operators
Understanding these challenges became a major focus of my professional work.
Research in Online Gaming and Gambling Regulation
Throughout my career I have conducted extensive research and analysis on the legal frameworks governing online gaming and gambling markets.
My research has explored topics including:
- the legal distinction between games of skill and games of chance
- regulatory models for online betting platforms
- taxation structures for digital gaming companies
- consumer protection in online casino environments
I have also studied emerging online casino platforms and digital betting systems in order to better understand how the iGaming ecosystem operates from both a technological and regulatory perspective.
As part of these analytical efforts, I have reviewed several online casino platforms operating in Asian markets, including research into digital gambling environments such as Gold365, examining platform structure, regulatory considerations, and responsible gaming mechanisms.
Publications and Academic Contributions
In addition to my legal practice, I have written and contributed to numerous publications on sports and gaming law.
One of my major works is the book:
“Law and Sports in India”, co-authored with former Supreme Court judge Justice Mukul Mudgal. This publication has become an important reference for professionals working in sports law and governance.
Beyond books, I have written articles for several international legal and sports publications, including:
- LawInSport
- Gambling Law Review
- International Sports Law Journal
- World Sports Law Report
These publications often focus on the evolving regulatory environment surrounding sports betting, online gaming platforms, and digital entertainment markets.
International Advisory and Industry Roles
Over the years I have served in advisory and governance roles across several international sports and gaming organizations.
My involvement includes participation in:
- World Athletics Election Oversight Panel
- Regulatory Commission of the Indian Super League
- Gaming and Leisure Group of the UK-India Business Council
- Legal Committee of the All India Gaming Federation
Through these roles I have worked with industry leaders to shape policies that support responsible growth in the sports betting and online gaming sectors.
Personal Perspective on the Future of iGaming
From my perspective as a legal advisor and policy researcher, the future of the iGaming industry will depend heavily on balanced regulation and technological innovation.
Key trends shaping the industry include:
- legalization and regulation of online gaming markets
- stronger compliance frameworks for betting operators
- integration of new technologies such as AI and blockchain
- increasing focus on responsible gaming and player protection
The challenge for regulators and industry stakeholders will be to create legal frameworks that protect consumers while allowing innovation to flourish.
Throughout my career, my goal has been to help build a legal environment where the sports, gaming, and digital entertainment industries can grow responsibly and sustainably.
